Violin Building Museum

The museum was founded in 1930 and since 1960 it has been housed in one of the most beautiful and oldest buildings of Mittenwald. The Violin Building Museum is one of the most important cultural and historic museums in the district of Garmisch-Partenkirchen. The exhibits illustrate the trade of violin building and a tradition of more than three centuries tied to the history of the town of Mittenwald. The extensive collection of high quality instruments focuses on violin building in Mittenwald starting with the Baroque period all the way to the workshops of today. The exhibition additionally features auditory and olfactory samples, historical movies and a look-and-see workshop where you can watch craftsmen at work.

7th to 31st January 11:00 am – 4:00 pm
1st February to 15th March 10:00 am – 5:00 pm
16th March to 14th May 11:00 am – 4:00 pm
15th May to 14th October 10:00 am – 5:00 pm
15th October to 15th November 11:00 am – 4:00 pm
17th December to 6th January 10:00 am – 5:00 pm

Closed on Mondays.

Closed from 16th November to 16th December, on 24th December and on 31st December.
